McVey, James Absolom born August l6, 1851 at Rose Hill, Mo., and died March 12, 1925 at Elk City, Okla. He was united in marriage to Anne Quick August 8, 1880. To this union were born six children, three of whom with their mother preceded him in death. April 5, 1893, he was united in marriage to Mattie E. Byerly. To this union was born one son who died in infancy. In early manhood Brother McVey united with the Christian church, the church of his fathers. Later he united with the Church of the Brethren. He went his simple ways of life seeking the light and desiring it for his fellow man; bearing the sorrows of his life with majesty, as the sea its storms, loving little children, and giving his great right hand in friendship to his fellow men. He leaves his wife and three children. Fruneral services March 14 at the Elk City church by Eld. J. R. Pitzer from Rev. 13;14, Interment in the Elk City cemetery. --J. R. DEATH OF J. A. McVEY (Handwritten dated 13 Mar 1925) --------- James A. McVey, a well-known resident of Elk City died yesterday afternoon, March 13 at 4:30 o'clock age 73 years. He leaves a wife and three children. Mrs. Ottiline Short, Okmulgee Okla., Miss Anne McVey, of New York City, and a son Daniel B. of Barwley, California. The daughters were at his bedside but the son was unable to come on account of illness in his own family. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Brethren on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock conducted by Rev. Pitzer of Oklahoma City. Obituary will be printed next week.

The casket was covered with **y beautiful floral offering and (ma)ny others were banked around the **n. These came from the children. **nds and neighbors and several **e from Okmulgee, from the court *se there, where Mr. Short County ***essor, and from the church **er organizations to which Mrs. (Sh)ort belongs.
(")Rock of Ages" was sung by Mr **d Mrs. John Tracy, Wm. Howlett, *s. Walter Hedlund and Miss Irene **dulund.
Eld. Carman of the Church of (Ch)rist read the 23rd Psalm which he *ought was very appropriate for Mr. (M)cVey as the Lord was his Shepherd **d in his closing days there was no **r. He was calm and peaceful for *** had loved and served God many (ye)ars and loved him devotedly, could **y with David. "Though I walk (th)ough the valley and shadow of (de)ath I will fear no evil for thou art (wi)th me" He paid a tribute to the **e of his friend.
