President Message

We had a very good turn out at our September meeting. We went over what was needed for our Show.

The Show was a great success as always. I would like to thank all those members who worked so hard to make it the success it was. Everyone who worked so hard, you know who you are. The cooks served great food, the members who took care of the door, popcorn, saw dust, rock bag, dealers and kitchen you all did a great job. The two young men from the city were a great help. Everyone had beautiful Show Cases, you all did well.

We all need to stay on the right path of friendship and help to each other.

See you at the October meeting.

The meeting was called to order by president Donna Chavez everyone was welcomed. The minutes for the last two meetings were read and approved. The treasurer report’s was read and approved. Security for the show was discussed. It was reported that the sheriff’s mobile command center would be parked on the north east corner of the building & David Chapman will be inside the building during the night. It was reported we would be able to park our mobile homes on the north end of the building Janet tried to get our show information printed in the doing’s section of the transcript bulletin, but they didn’t get it in. The sign on the corner of the city park was discussed it was decided we would put up our sign at the base of their sign. Henry will pick up the prisoner’s and bring them down to help set up the show. Anyone who wants to buy our old tables should pick out what they want after the show so we won’t have to put them in our trailers.

Larry will buy the TV for the grand prize. We discussed putting up some more of our show posters. Dennis Chapman reported there is a teacher in Main that is asking if we would donate some rock to her class. It was brought to our attention that we need a nominating committee to find someone to run for the club officers, Bob Kirby and Eris were nominated to the nominating committee, and it was approved. Don won the door prize. Phil and Dixie will bring the treats next month. The meeting was adjourned.

Letter From The Editor:
Sorry I haven’t had a lot of time to spend with the newsletter. This has been a REAL CRAZY summer for me this year. The disk I use to save articles to put in the newsletter went bad, but this is a good chance to start fresh and new. Soon I plan to do a few changes to the layout of the Strata Gem so it will score a little higher in the competitions.

I don’t know if any members are interested, but one complaint I hear from new members is they want to learn things related to our hobby. One thing the older members can do is share their time, knowledge & fellowship. I know if it wasn’t for a few members taking an interest and helping me along the way I probably would have given up. I have started an email discussion group, which might help some of the club members. I hope to put up several projects a year, which will be a place to ask questions or just chat. It not very active right now, but it might be an option. You can find it at:

If there is enough interest I will start one just for the club.
