The Schools Need Our Help!!!

Our show is just ending, we are getting ready to tear down. A teacher comes to the silent auction pulling money out his own pocket wanting rocks for his students & is so grateful for the stuff we can’t sell. What is wrong with this picture?

Most of us have piles of rocks in our yards & may I quote “I will never get to all the rocks in my yard in my life time”, what better way of making a difference in someone’s life, than to help someone teach our kids! Maybe it’s time to clean house.

Watching this teacher go through this material, they need the Name, and if possible the State & Location of where it was found.

This is a community project that won’t cost the club a dime, just a little sweat making little rocks out of big rocks so the kids can hold, observe & learn from them.

President’s Message

I would like to thank everyone who helped in any way to make the show a success. Many of you put in some long hard & tiresome hours. This is what it takes to put on a show like ours & it is appreciated very much.

I have heard many comments on how good our show is and that it is one of the best.

We didn’t have as many people go through due to the stormy weather, but it was still a success.

Thanks

Subject: Minutes for September 2000
Place:    Tooele Senior Citizen Center
Time:    Sept. 12th 2000

The meeting was called to order by Darrel Bolinder & he welcomed everyone out. Dennis Chapman read the minutes for the August meeting, they were the approved. Donna Chavez then read the financial report, they were then approved.

Darrel read a thank you letter from Janet, thanking the club for the basket she received after her surgery.
Dennis had checked out laser printer, but felt a good one costs way to much & he really didn’t want the job of printing & correlating added to what he was already doing. He work out a way to get the newsletter copied & Earl will handle the mailing end.

Dorothy Imlay was selling her 2 show cases. It was approved that the club buy them as long as they were in good shape.

We then talked about what we need to have done for the show. We have 4, possibly 5 schools who need assemblies, and were able to find volunteers for them. The Junior High School will have about 400 students come over at the opening day of the show & the first line of students will cut the ribbon. Our signs were up & Utah Power & Light has our big sign to be put up. It was approved to have Search & Rescue supply extra security, by patrolling the outside of the building all night long. The correctional facility will not be able to help us this year, so the members are going to have to move in the glass cases & other work they have done in the past.

Darrel will be stepping down as President & we will need to get a nominating committee going. It was approved that the 2 year limit on certain positions be changed, but it was emphasized that we really need the members to take part in the officers & committees positions.

We have permission of the Meeker Mine to go there & collect Pyrite, we will try & make a fieldtrip out of it. We are also about out of Wonder Stone & Zebra Rock, so we will try and get some more.

Phil won the door prize (?) and the meeting was then adjourned.

Club President

From the leaks in the roof
To catching water in pots
We all got through it
Like it or not

Today the sun is out
The rain it is forgot
Its about time to tear down
And store the whole lot

The memories are many
The Problems there are few
I would like to give thanks
To one Heck Of A Crew!!!
