President’s Message

We are starting into the summer season with more & more things to take up our time. We have 5 months to get things made and get ready for the show. Lets make every effort we can to get Wheel & Door Prizes ready.

We still need a Field Trip Chairman to plan some trips before the summer is over. When we have the Rock Bag Fill, lets decide what rock we need and try to gather them this summer. Hunting for rock & gem stones is fairly new to me, but I will help search for sites if someone will give me ideas & directions.

I attended the Timpanogas Show in Provo along with several other club members. There was some ideas discussed at this time and are being followed up on to benefit our show.

Well this is all for now, I looking forward to see everyone at the next meeting!!!

Sincerely,
Darrel Bolinder
President

Tooele Gem & Mineral

Subject: Minutes of the Meeting
Place: Tooele Senior Citizen Center
Date April 11th, 2000

Darrel called the meeting to order & welcomed everyone out. Benjamin read the minutes for March, they were then approved as read. He mentioned there was some mail about some upcoming show & invited everyone to come up & take a look. Donna read the treasurer’s report & it was then approved.

Earl thanked Jay, Harris, Phil, Bob, Erla & everyone that went in to talk to the school kids in Salt Lake. It went real well & the kids were thrilled, and enjoyed it very much.

Dennis mentioned that Netscape was making him change his name & that will effect the club website name at the end of the month, so he is dropping his name out of it & it will be http://sites.netscape.net/tooelegem. He also asked for pictures of anything you are proud (jewelry, cabs, carvings, specimens, etc…)of so he can get it up on the board, he doesn’t want to make it a commercial site, but if you want to sell he will add information so people to contact you.

Cliff Phelps thanked the club for the flowers he received after his injury.

There was some discussion on the progress of our show & the federation show. The federation show is needing wheel prizes, door prizes & volunteers.

There was some discussion about the Show Committee & Appointed Officers (Dennis had computer problems & the Apr. newsletter had the wrong list sorry), we still need a fieldtrip chairman!!!

Dennis introduced our demonstrator, Andy won the door prize & the meeting was then adjourned for refreshments & the demonstration.

Members’ News

Newsletter Correction:
Due to a computer problem I had to redo my template, and on page 2 there was some errors. I apologize to the people that was added to the appointed officers & show committee that didn’t belong.

New Library Book:
At the last meeting we picked up "Art Clay Silver", if you missed the last meeting here is a chance to see what you missed.

Articles For Kids:
I was at Vantage Gems & there was a mother there trying to get some things for her 10 year old. I realized I haven’t been doing anything for the young kids, so I am going to start saving articles for young kids, but could use some feedback and/or help figuring out what would interest them (puzzles, mazes, crafts, etc…). If you have kids PLEASE let me know what they are interested in, if you have any projects send them to me!!! My address & phone is on page 2 (Dennis Chapman).

I just downloaded a program called Hot Potatoes which helps you create quizzes, crossword puzzles, jumbles sentences & more. Then you can save it as Web Pages (or with a little editing I can also put it in the newsletter), I will try and get it on my laptop & bring it into the next meeting. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it, if not my niece would probably love helping. This would make a great kids corner on the club web site & newsletter.

Club Website:
On Apr. 18th Netscape will make me change my user name (that’s what I get for using a free service) so I dropped my name & will make this the club site. The new name will be "http://sites.netscape.net/tooelegem", I am in the process in moving my stuff over to a new server. The Rocky Mountain Federation has also listed our site on their site, so hopefully more people can find out about us.

I would like to encourage you to send photos to me so I can get them up, jewelry, cabs, specimens, carvings or anything else you are proud of. I may have to limit you to 10-20 photos each, but right now I would take anything you would like.

If you have your own website send me your location & I will put in a link. I also put my full listing of area shows in & around Utah, the newsletter only gets what fits. I also have links to all the federation in the USA, if you would like to check them out, if you would like to add more locations send me to me.
