President’s Message

Well February started out with a bang. We had the Olympic Torch come through Tooele. If you were one of the thousands of people standing out in Smith parking lot that morning freezing and waiting for the Torch to arrive, it was well worth the wait, a once in my lifetime event. The Torch left as fast as it arrived.

Our meeting was a very small one, we talked about field trips. A trip to collect Sunstones was set up. Some of our Snowbirds will be coming home soon. It will be good to have everyone back.

Always follow the rhythm of nature and enjoy life journey.

February 12, 2002

Tooele Senior Citizens Center

The meeting was called to order by president Donna Chavez, everyone was welcomed.  The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.  The treasurer report was read and approved, the treasurer explained how he keeps track of our income and expenses, the club members decided that he can keep the job, they didn't want it.  Donna is still working on getting the information on our club vests. We had scheduled a video for the meeting tonight, but it didn't work out, so we will finish it later.

We will have a silent auction at our next meeting so bring some good rock. We discussed getting a TV, VCR combo so we can watch our videos. It was decided to check with the senior citizens to see if they have one we can use, and if not, if we could use a cabinet that we can lock to store our own.  We had a visitor, Mike Anderson who is checking out our club. The club discussed the different places that we could go on a field trip, it was decided to go for sunstone, we will go Saturday March 23.

The door prize was won by David Haag. The meeting was adjourned.

Club Fieldtrip:

The club will be going to Sunstone Knoll Saturday March 23. If you have never been there before go about 5 miles west out of Delta, turn south on SR 257 to Milford. First town you go through is Deseret, 11 miles south of there is Sunstone Knoll. Be careful crossing the cattle guard, last I heard one side is damaged.

Come to the next meeting or call one of the officers to let us know if you are going. If you don’t let us know, we can’t contact you if it is called off due to weather or other problems.

March Meeting:

We will be having a Silent Action at out next meeting.

Letter From The Editor & Vise Prez:

I don’t have much to say this month. We received this message on the guest book on the website that made me feel good & I thought I’d share. Date: 16 Feb. 2002, Hi everyone. Great site with lots of info. You have something here to be proud of. Keep up the good work. Michael L. Mowen Secretary Franklin County Rock and Mineral Club Chambersburg, PA 17201.

We are starting to get some younger kids in the club and I would like to let them know they are MORE than welcome to contribute to the newsletter. I have access to programs to create puzzles & quizzes. If you would like you can come up with words for a hidden word puzzle, words & hints for crossword puzzles, multiple choice, jumbled-word quiz, etc… Also if your teacher has you do a report on rocks, geology or earth science, I would love to put it in the kids corner. This also goes for you older kids with a little snow on the roof.
