Strata Gem
June 2000

President’s Message

It was good to see the large group we had at the last meeting. There was a lot of things discussed that needs to be done prior to our show. I really appreciated the support of everyone there. This is the time to prepare & organize things & everyone there seemed ready.

I want to wish everyone who is sick or have other ailments a speedy recovery, we miss you & wish you our best.

I have got a lot of family activities & graduations in and out of the state coming up the next few weeks, which will make a real tight schedule for me to get to the field trip & work day, but will try to make both.

Just as a reminder, we will be having our June meeting in conjunction with the grab bag fill so we really need you there.

Sincerely,
Darrel Bolinder
President

Tooele Gem & Mineral

Subject:Minutes for May 2000
Place: Tooele Senior Citizen Center
Time: May 9th, 2000
The meeting was called to order by Darrel Bolinder & he welcomed everyone out. Dennis Chapman read the minutes for April & they were then approved. Donna Chavez then read the treasurer’s report, it were then approved as read.

Bob Kirby reported that the University of Utah was very excited about the offer to put in a display at our next show. They will be putting 1 case this year as long as we make sure we have security during the night, they were told that would be no problem.

Janet Nix reported the tickets, posters, fliers & the water bill inserts for our show have been ordered, and the Camber will help pay for them.

Jay Woods reported the Grab Bag Fill will be held on June 10th at Jay’s house. The grab bag fill will be pot luck except the club will supply the sloppy joes. He mentioned there will be a work day to get the wheel prizes there & at the steak fry because we really need to get a lot out because of our show & the federation show. He also made a proposal that the club pay for the camp sites at the steak fry & it was approved.

There was some discussion about rocks for the grab bags & field trips. We still need a chairman, but we will have a day field trip for honey onyx on the 3rd of June. Byron Scott will lead the trip & Dennis Chapmanwill make sure a postcard with the details will get out to the members.

Bob Titus mentioned we need to go through the liners of our case and clean & repair any that need attention. Earl Copfer mentioned with some advance notice he can get card board for the cases. And we will keep looking for discontinued wall paper to cover the liners.

It was mentioned about the 3rd we will have to go in and renew our food handlers permits. We can get it sooner but they only have the test the 1st & last Tuesday of the month.

Lida thanked the club for the ivy plant she received from the club &explained what has been going on.

Sense the rock bag fill & the meeting are within 3 days of each other, we will have the meeting at the rock bag fill on June 10th.

Phil Salm won the door prize & the meeting was adjourned forrefreshments & social.

ALAA Electronic Newsletter:
Recently the ALAA was the victim of what was probably an environmental attack. The list of people receiving it was hacked & a porno spam was being sent out at the same time as the newsletter with their name on it. That is why there was no Government News this month’s Strata Gem. Bob Cranston has his provider working on a trace & a lady in California has forwarded her copy to the Spam Cop for review. Either way, they hope to catch the perpetrator.

For those of you that don’t know who the ALAA (American Land AccessAssociation) are, they fight for our rockhounding rights in the government & keep us informed of what is going on. You can get more info at: http://www.amerlands.org/
