President’s Message

March is just about over. We went on our field trip for Sunstones. Too bad we had a small turn out, but we had a good time till the weather turned cold. We need more participation on the field trips. I know everyone has all the rocks they need but we have to remember that these trips are set up to collect rocks for the rock bag fill and for the members to get together and enjoy each other friendship and company. Without these trips what would our club be? I would like to thank Earl and Barbara for their help and company on the field trip.

Looking forward to seeing everyone back from Quartzsite. I also wish Jay the best in his up coming surgery.

Hope everyone had a Happy Easter,

and always remember to stay on the path of friendship.

Again I would like to thank Matt for standing in for me while I’ve been gone, maybe when I get back you may want to impeach me & keep Matt J.

In April we usually have the welcome back for the snowbirds, but if anyone is interested I will be able to show the club members what the club website looks like. I noticed there is a university professor who has a link to one of the educational articles.

In May I thought rather than do some direct casting (bean/broom/salt) at the meeting, I would talk about it and show the tools needed. Then after the May meeting I will set up a class so you can try it. If you are interested, leave a message at XXXXXXXX and let me know what date would be best for you. I would like to have a date set by the end of the April meeting. I will try to pick a day that will work best for the majority. See page 8 on how to do broom casting.

The meeting was called to order by president Donna Chavez everyone was welcomed.  The minutes of the last meeting was read and approved. The treasurer report was read and approved.

Donna is working on getting new vests made, we want the club emblem embroidered not silk screened.

Our rock bag fill will be the 8th of June. Jay made a suggestion that we go down to his place and clean and straighten up our store of rocks the Saturday before our rock bag fill. It was decided that the club would provide lunch for those who come to help. This will be June 1st, no time was set so come early.

We talked about our tables. We need to get some new ones, but we think we have enough of the old tables left to do our rock bag fill.

The snowbirds will be back for our next meeting. We will plan our next trip at that time, it was suggested that we should get some more wonder stone on our next trip, we should also consider getting some Iron Pyrite.

Earl talked to us about sunstone and showed us some samples and some he had faceted.

Jay reported that as far as he knows, we haven’t got any contracts back for the show yet.

The door prize was won by Henery. On the silent auction, we made $19.50. Erla will bring treats for our next meeting. The meeting was adjourned.
