President’s Message

Maxine & I are back home from Quartzsite and getting settled again. And it was nice to go out to dinner (before our last meeting) with some of the club members who were in Quartzsite this winter.

It is getting close to spring, so we need to plan some fieldtrips. If anyone has some ideas on places to go and look for rock, let’s discuss this at our next meeting. It was brought up at the last meeting, that there are not very many who want to go on some of these trips because they have already got enough of the rocks we are going after, or they have other plans for the date. It is the fellowship & camaraderie that makes the trip special. I go on a lot of outings with my family on holiday weekends, and I have talked to several other members of the club who do the same. So let’s plan our fieldtrips on other weekends so more will be able to go.

I hope those who are still in Quartzsite & have ailments will get better soon, and be able to join us at our meetings soon.

Thanks again,
Darrel Bolinder
President

Tooele Gem & Mineral

Subject: Minutes for the Meeting

The meeting was called to order by Darrell Bolinder & he welcomed everyone out. The Secretary read the minutes for Feb., were then approved. The Treasurer report was then read & approved.

Dennis said he was making a club web page & asked for pictures from the members of their work to put on it.

There was some discussion about our readiness for our show & the Federation show.

Earl was asked by a teacher to have someone come out and talk about rocks & minerals to her class, after some reluctance we found a volunteer.

It was brought up whether we wanted to rejoin the Utah Federation, after some discussion it was approved.

We then had the drawing for the door prize & Barbara won. The meeting was then adjourned for the social & refreshments.

Member’s News

Get Well Soon:
Cliff Phelps was run over by one of his horses and punctured a lung, he had to go to the Tooele Valley Hospital on March 17th. To date I haven’t heard how he is doing.

We have found out what was wrong with Lida Chapman, a nerve in her back is being pinched & it may require back surgery.

April Program:
This month we will be having Patrica Walton, she teaches teachers in the use of Art Clay Silver. It is similar to Precious Metals Clay, a finely grown fine silver in a clay medium that is molded then fired. I have tried it and has neat results. I’ve made a pendant & an origami frog.

Sorry about the videos the last 2 months. The march video was a very interesting one but I guess my video machine didn’t like the ride. I got home & it wouldn’t play the fast speed, but the next morning it worked fine. I guess it’s like me, old & doesn’t like to work when it’s cold.

Club Website:
If you haven’t checked it out you should give it look, a you can find it at: http://sites.netscape.net/dennischap/tooelegem . I would like to add a members gallery to it, so if you could send me a picture of some of your favorite jewelry and/or specimens, and anything you want to say about them. I will scan them & mail them back to you. Kind of like your own private web page, something you can brag about to family & friends. I just think it would be fun to have a little virtual show of our clubs work.
