  Death Notes:

Mrs. Grace E. Thomas Nielson - Antonito - Antointo resident, Mrs. Grace E. Thomas Nielson, 97, died Jan. 15, 2000 at the Conejos County Hospital in La Jara. Nielson was born Feb. 24, 1902 in Manassa to Joseph F. and Mary Jane Jack Thomas. She married Wilford Ray Nielson on June 17, 1922. Her husband died Aug. 22, 1964. Nielson was also preceded in death by her parents, 22 brothers and sisters, and her son Thomas Winston Nielson on Jan. 27, 1999 [?] while serving in WW II. Nielson taught in Conejos County for many years and played piano in the Sowards Orchestra for several years. She was a member of the LDS Church and enjoyed crocheting, tatting, and reading. She was known for her love of children. Nielson is survived by her daughter Karen (Alfred) Jackson of Manassa; her grandchildren, Dr. Vaughn (Sue) Jackson of Manassa; Patricia Jackson of Springville, Utah; and Cynthia (Andy) Price of Ignacio. She is also survived by her brother Ivan (Mildred) Thomas of Sanford and sister Marguerite (Elwin) Christensen of Antonito, her 6 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday Jan. 18, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Manassa Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Interment will follow in the Manassa Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa which is in care of the arrangements.
