The death occurred in Lynndyl early Friday morning of Benjamin Martin Ivie who was visiting at the home of his son Jerome. Mr. Ivie had been in failing health for the past few years and his death was not unexpected, though it cam as a shock to his children here. He was born September 15, 1848 at Potawatamie, Iowa and was the son of Jas. Russel Ivie and Eliza Tossett Ivie. He came to Salt Lake City with his parents in 1848, moved to Provo in 1851, to Mount Pleasant in 1853 and to Scipio in 1863. In 1865 he married Martha Ann Memmott who died fifteen year later. Eleven children were born to this couple six of whom survive. They are Joseph O, of Delta, James A., Thomas B., and Wilbert of Scipio, Jerome of Lynndyl and Ammos of McGill, Nevada, Mr. Ivie was one of thirteen children; he has one brother Hiram, living in Duchesne. In the days when the family lived in Mt. Pleasant the people were just beginning to build houses, having lived in tents up to this time. The Indians were a source of great trouble at that place and date. Mr. Ivie was a veteran of the Black Hawk Indian war, and was one of the pioneers of scipio. His father was killed by Indians here fifty eight years ago.

Funeral services were held in the Scipio ward meeting house at two o'clock on Sunday afternoon, inder the direction of Bishop Arthur Brown. The house was filled with relatives and friends. The floral tributes were very beatiful. The Choir renderd three beautiful hymns as follows: "who Are These Arrayed in White", "Rest, Rest for the Weary", and "Farewel All Earthly Honors". Con Robins sang an appropriat solo. The speakers were: Samuel Memmott, J. P. Olsen, C. A. Memmott and Grover Probert. Each speaker testified to the good nature and kindness of the deceased. In his active days he was always the owner of fine hourses, and he was always the lover of fine stock. Internment was in the city cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Ivie of Salina, Mr. Frank Foot of Gunnison, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Talbot of Lynndyl, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Ivie of Juab, Mrs. Wm. Penney of Kanosh, Mrs. Oscar Perterson and Mrs. James Smith of Delta were here to attend Mr. Ivie's funeral.
