1. Education: Dartmouth, 1786, Hanover, Grafton, New Hampshire, USA. 349 He graduated at Dartmouth, in 1786, and was a teacher for some time in the College. 2. Religion: pastor, 8 Apr 1789, Brookfield, Orange, Vermont, USA. 349 He studied theology, and April 8, 1789, was ordained and installed as pastor of the Congregational church at Brookfield, Vt., where he continued to labor 39 years, when he died. Dur-ing several years of the first of his ministry he was the only Congregational or Presbyterian minister in the north half of the state, and at his own expense he, used to spend several weeks every year traveling through the new settle-ments, organizing churches, preaching and administering the ordinances. Elijah married M. M. WATERMAN in 1788.349 (M. M. WATERMAN died in 1851 349.) |
