1. Military: Enlisted, 1776. 340 In 1776, be enlisted in the army and served several years under Gen. Putnam. He ranked as orderly sergeant. He saw the old hero ride down the stone steps, and was with him in several of his most daring and successful enterprises. He was a man of great courage and firmness in the midst of danger. Gen. Putnam once said, that if he only had 1,000 such men as Orderly Lyman he would drive every red-coated Briton out of America in 6 months. Richard married Philomelia LOOMIS. |
