For several years Asa was a resident of Mo. At the breaking out of the rebellion he was quite wealthy, but was destined to suffer because he could not stand by and see the old flag insulted without avowing his sentiments in its behalf; Living in the very heart of rebeldom he was subjected to many insults. His two sons joined the Union forces, and then he was driven from home with his family, and suffered much before reaching Illinois. 330
The Winter Quarters project has Clay, Greene, Missouri, the only Clay I could find was in Adair County.
1. Census, 1880, Clay Twp., Greene, Missouri, USA. 331 He was a farmer. Asa married Rhoda YOUNG in 1831 in , St. Lawrence, New York, USA.329 (Rhoda YOUNG died in 1839 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio, USA 332.) Asa next married Margaret (Lyman). (Margaret (Lyman) was born about 1814 in Kentucky 331.) |
